unrealized expectations

16 Nov

This week I suffered a bit of disappointment. I had been preparing for an event for over a month, devoting hours to it every day. Honestly, looking back on it I don’t see how I could have better prepared myself. Regardless of how well prepared I believe I was, I performed horribly, significantly below my abilities. The realization that my hard work had not paid off was extremely hard. I hold myself to such as high standards because I know all that I am capable of, this failure was not only disappointing it was extremely detrimental to my self-esteem. I felt like giving up, throwing in the towel. I really wished I could have invited you to my pity party, it was great time. As fun as wallowing in despair and pity can be, I had to get up, brush off my failures and disappointments and continue on my journey. In life disappointments are almost certainties. It makes no sense for me to allow one event, to determine my self-worth and what I believe I can achieve.  I can only truly be disappointed if I don’t try, so I will keep pursuing my dreams and living with no regrets.
